Still Doing Vaccines

Monday, May 3, 2010

We finally got around to having Via her Chicken pox vaccine (P2,500). It was scheduled when she turned one last December but got postponed several times. Looking at her baby book, her pediatrician discovered that we also missed the MMR vaccine. That one has to be done next month. After the MMR, there are booster shots to think of. I cannot keep track of all these vaccines and the booster shots. And I have only one child!

I'm thankful that Via has never had any fever or side effects for the vaccine shots. It's hard to get her ready for the shot though. Since she already knows what is going to happen.

I remember when she was about five months. We were getting the pneumococcal vaccine. I had it done at my office because it's really expensive and they give it to staff at less than market price. Because of the long line of babies, the pediatrician has the next patient ready in the room while giving the shot to another one. So Via was watching this baby boy get his shot. The baby boy did not make a sound through it all and even after. It was like he felt nothing. So I thought Via would not be scared or cry as well. But no, once I put her on the bed, she started bawling. It had the opposite effect. She knew exactly what was going to happen and kept looking warily at everyone while crying at the top of her lungs. Needless to say, we had a hard time pinning her down.

The nice toys at the pedia's office are good at distracting her so there's no struggle until the needle hit her butt. We have a few more boosters this year then she will get a rest.
