Avilon Zoo

Thursday, May 3, 2012

We planned this trip to Avilon Zoo on Labor Day, May 1, with my bestfriend's sister and her daughter. I had no idea where the zoo was. I thought it was near Tiendesitas but that turned out to be an indoor zoo called Ark Avilon. Ark Avilon and Avilon Zoo had the same owners but Avilon Zoo, we were told is located in San Isidro, Montalban. We were stumped! Ang layo nun!

But since we planned a visit to the zoo that day and it was still early, we decided to go on to Avilon Zoo anyway. We saw a line of taxicabs at SM Hypermart. The driver agreed to take us but had to consult other taxi drivers where Avilon Zoo was exactly. They were all sketchy about the location and how to get there. Good thing for us. It was a slow day for taxicabs and the driver did not even haggle. He used the taxi meter. I have to commend 24/7 taxi by the way, I always use them when possible.

It was indeed very far. It took us an hour and a half because it was a holiday, and lots of asking around. On a regular day, the trip would most likely take more than 2 hours. We were excited once we finally got there.

At the entrance, Via kept asking, where are the animals? Where are the animals? She wanted to see elephants and giraffes and kangaroos. The first place we came across was the animal feeding station where one can feed the guinea pigs vegetables like carrots, beans etc.

From there, we came across the birds. There were so many different species. Some were very colorful. I marveled at how clean the zoo was and the animals were healthy. They were very well looked after. The zoo itself had several buildings where construction was going on. They really created it as close to the animals natural habitat as possible.

Via enjoyed the big cats like the tiger, puma, cougar and the snow leopard which she recognized from watching Diego.

I loved watching her watch the animals :) She wasn't scared at all and even had her picture taken with this orangutan called Trixie, holding her hand. She was really curious that she touched the tummy, face, mouth and the hair.

We enjoyed our visit to Avilon Zoo but I doubt we will go back. It's just too far.

The entrance fee is P300 for adults and P200 for children 3.5 feet and below. Tour guides are available if you want one for P400. Picture taking with the orangutan, owl and eagle were P50 for two shots.

Hi! My siblings and I were at the Avilon Zoo last May 1, 2012 also. But we were there from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Avilon is really a beautiful place and there's so much animals to see. Children and adults will surely enjoy the place.

I was in Avilon Zoo, I think 5 years ago. That was a date with my gf (now my wife). After reading your post, I think I'll plan to visit again especially now that we have a 4-year-old :) Thanks for sharing!

my tot would love it there! she likes seeing and touching the animals. the rates are affordable, good thing that the place is well maintained!

I think animals should not be kept in zoos. they should live in their natural habitats. they should not be taken out from the wild and kept like prisoners.

i've been here two years ago, nakijoin kami ng field trip ng pamangkin ko. nagpapicture din kami sa orangutan. hehe!

wow. another zoo near the city. this is actually a good way to veer off your kids from going to malls. zoos and parks are good places to bond.

Kha June 14, 2012 at 2:10 AM

I will definitely book a date to go to Avilon Zoo. Now that I have a little princess whom I know will enjoy going into parks and seeing different animals. Before I was opt in going to parks since ex bf (hubby) told me that it is only for kids. Now we have our princess no more excuses in going to :)

Tin June 14, 2012 at 3:50 AM

Wow! I never thought we still have a good zoo here...

I remember Faye's field trip at Avilon Zoo years ago, I was so tired because the place was really big. Been planning to go back with the rest of the family, but couldn't find the right schedule yet.

I like that photo of Via sitting by the pond :-)

Lalah June 14, 2012 at 10:20 PM

how I wish we have somthing like that here in Cebu. Sophia is into tigers and lions, I wish I could take her to see the real one. Do they have lions too?

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:04 AM

Yes, meron lions :)

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:05 AM

I like it too. Parang nagmumuni muni :)

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:06 AM

Yup the Orang smells good too. Uses powder and cologne according to her trainer.

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:07 AM

That's where we went first. I thought that was the zoo. We were shocked that it was actually in Montalban :)

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:08 AM

I agree! Too much malling and shopping for kids today.

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:15 AM

The groups I saw there were mostly families with little kids :)

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:17 AM

Ang bait ng orangutan. Sanay sa picture picture :)

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Very well maintained. It's evident by how healthy the animals look.

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 12:19 AM

I actually enjoyed watching my daughter's reaction to the animals more :)

Hi, thanks for sharing about Avilon Zoo. So, where is it exactly? We just came back to the Philippines and my 2 daughters still haven't visited the zoo. Maybe we could go there one time.

leira June 15, 2012 at 4:34 PM

Jellybelly,  June 15, 2012 at 7:30 PM

It's in San Isidro, Montalban, Rizal. It's best you get your relatives to bring you there because it's kind of hard to find, or maybe it was just us, but we got lost a couple times.

CorbyLove June 15, 2012 at 10:05 PM

wow thats cool. you can even interact with the animals. :)

Nice June 16, 2012 at 7:52 AM

Even if it took us hours of traveling, I loved Avilon Zoo too! I also got a picture with Trixie, shown in this post:

ceemee June 16, 2012 at 6:04 PM

I'd like to take my almost 2-year-old to a zoo too because he likes animals so much! But Avilon Zoo seems too far. I wonder what the Ark Avilon looks like...

Jen June 17, 2012 at 12:21 AM

Thanks for sharing this post. Will ask my husband (I'm ornithophobic, yikes.) to bring my little girl to this zoo when she's a little older. :-)
