There's Nothing Wrong with My Eye Mommy

Monday, April 30, 2012

I took Via to a pedia opthalmologist to get her eyes checked. She's been squinting and closing her left eye when pointing at something in a distance. My friend K told me about her nephew who watched TV from the corner of his eye and it turned out he needed glasses. I took time off from work to bring her to the opthalmologist. I didn't know there was a pedia opthalmologist. We were referred to one instead of the regular opthalmologist. Gee, the medical profession is getting very specialized.

I didn't really think there was anything wrong with Via's eyes but it's better to be sure and catch it early if there is something wrong. Good eyesight is very important. I started wearing glasses when I was in second grade. I don't want her to wear glasses at young age like me. I guess that's why I don't drive. I don't want to miscalculate distances on the road and end up having an accident. Getting a license is easy especially with a dmv drivers manual. It's driving in real life with all the traffic and crazy motorists that worries me.

Via's check up went well and as always, she was a good patient and was able to read all the letters she was asked to read.

Tests were done which all turned out normal. So nothing to worry about.

Going to School

Monday, April 23, 2012

The Twerp will be going to pre-school this June. Yay! I'm so excited. She's attending summer school now, her second time. Next year, she will start in the big school. I haven't yet decided where, but out of all the schools I've been considering, I've narrowed it down to two. Those two are very different from each other and one will require us to move. I'm putting off choosing for later. Let's see how she does in pre-school.

While searching for suitable schools for Via, I can't help fast-forwarding to college. Maybe other mothers do this as well. So thoughts about gmat prep and other tests she will need to get into a good university are also in my mind as well. I find everything so competitive these days.  I've heard of some pre-schoolers getting tutored in Mandarin because their parents want them to attend Chinese schools.

So like I said, I've been looking at universities for when she goes to college. I'm just having fun looking, comparing fees and programs but I want her to go to college abroad actually, like her Daddy. Just in case she gets an opportunity to study abroad, we need something like Veritas Prep to help her get ready.

So, I went with Via on the first day of summer school. I stayed the whole time to watch how she would behave and participate because she was the youngest in the class. Well, I should have no worries because she was very active.

I noticed that the girls were mostly more responsive than the boys. It was so much fun to watch them. Times like that make me wish I were a stay-at-home mother. I wish. So these will be her classmates in June as well. Some of them were her classmates in last year's summer school and she remembered them. I'm glad she's having fun in school.

Hello Summer!

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

It's that time of the year to go to the beach, wear shorts, flip flops and sandals. I do love summer despite the heat because you get to wear really casual clothes and wear sandals. Via will get to wear her pink swimsuit more often. She loves a dip in the pool but we don't get to do it often because the pool is always freezing and I hate being cold. Daddy is better. He's the one who always goes swimming with Via. I love kids swimsuits. Why can't they make bigger versions of them :)

Now that I'm wearing sandals more, I'm much more aware of the state of my toenails. I don't often go for mani/pedi because I get impatient sitting in a salon. Also, the reason why I've never colored my hair, never go for rebonding and whatnot. I can't stand sitting there in the salon or nail polish shop waiting for my turn and waiting again while it's being done. Anyway, since I've discovered that Via's caregiver who's actually a cousin, knows how to do mani/pedi and cut hair, I've become interested in nail polish. For starters, I put something neutral but now that it's summer, I want to try deeper colors.

I've been looking at nail polish colors on the internet instead of going to the mall and I can across julep maven. I love the colors. They're perfect for summer. But they also have neutral colors that I like which are also perfect for french manicures.

I'm thinking of putting polish on Via's toenails as well but Daddy might have a fit :) Maybe when she's a little older. For now, she's having fun checking out the colors and trying to do her nails and copying what I'm doing.

Surprise!

Thursday, April 5, 2012

One Saturday afternoon I logged onto Facebook to check on my kingdom. That's about all the use I have for Facebook, playing games. Anyway, I had a message and was I surprised to see that it was from a friend who's been living in the US for years now. I had no idea she would be coming here. She wanted to meet up. Well of course! I called up our other friend and we both went to meet up with her the next day.

She's one of my dearest friends. She knows everything I've been through in my life and was very supportive. We were, all three of us tellers together in a commercial bank. I think it was the first job for all of us.

Where to go? Where else but eat. She wanted to have halo-halo so we went to Dayrit's in Tomas Morato to eat and catch up.

The humongous halo-halo. Too late when I remembered we should have taken her to Razon's if it was halo-halo she wanted. We were just so eager to find a place to sit and talk and Dayrit's was the first place I thought to go.

After spending several hours at Dayrit's, we took her back to where she was staying which was beside SM San Lazaro. We were hungry again when we got there so we ate again. This time at Mang Inasal's in SM. We were reminiscing how we used to love eating at Bacolod Chicken House in Intramuros.

It was a very short time we spent together but grateful nevertheless for it. It's going to be years before we see each other again.

By the way, I have really neglected this blog. I've been so busy with many things, 24 hours just don't seem enough. Hopefully, I will be able to catch up soon.
